Who runs Wild Social Dreams, what it covers and what it deliberately does not do.
Wild Social Dreams is a small independent editorial project about four categories of hotel that are usually written about separately: art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels. Each category holds four real, operating properties, and each property gets a couple of paragraphs of plain description rather than a scorecard.
Why these four
Most hotel writing treats the room as a container for the trip. In these four categories it isn't. A capsule berth in Kyoto, a carved ice suite in Lapland, an artist-commissioned floor in Louisville and a resort tower above the Horseshoe Falls are all, in their own way, the reason the traveller went — the accommodation is the destination rather than the base for one.
How properties are chosen
Selection is editorial and unpaid. We look for hotels that are genuinely representative of their category, that have been operating long enough to be described fairly, and that are open to ordinary travellers rather than by invitation. The set is deliberately small; four per category is enough to compare and short enough to read.
What we don't do
- We do not take bookings, hold inventory or pass traffic to a booking partner for commission.
- We do not publish star ratings, scores or guest reviews.
- We do not accept payment, hosted stays or any other consideration in exchange for inclusion or for how a property is described.
Accuracy
Hotels renovate, change owners and occasionally close. Ice hotels are rebuilt from scratch every winter and are never quite the same building twice. We keep descriptions general and true to character for that reason, and we correct anything that turns out to be wrong — see contact.
